“I’ve had a most amazing time....”

So begins the Time Traveller’s astonishing firsthand account of his journey 800,000 years beyond his own era—and the story that launched H.G. Wells’s successful career and earned him his reputation as the father of science fiction. With a speculative leap that still fires the imagination, Wells sends his brave explorer to face a future burdened with our greatest hopes...and our darkest fears. A pull of the Time Machine’s lever propels him to the age of a slowly dying Earth.  There he discovers two bizarre races—the ethereal Eloi and the subterranean Morlocks—who not only symbolize the duality of human nature, but offer a terrifying portrait of the men of tomorrow as well.  Published in 1895, this masterpiece of invention captivated readers on the threshold of a new century. Thanks to Wells’s expert storytelling and provocative insight, The Time Machine will continue to enthrall readers for generations to come.

This is the classic in which the idea of a time machine was born. The Time Traveler is the main character in this story, who invents a machine to travel through time. He narrates his experience traveling to the year 802,701 to a group of acquaintances. The Time Traveler comes back horrified at how the human race had evolve in those years. There seem to be two symbiotic races who live without purpose nor motivations.

It is an interesting and visionary book. Written in 1895, it is amazing the understanding Wells had about human nature and its possible evolution. Undoubtedly a pessimistic and a bit simplistic vision, I found it very creative and original for the time when it was written. It has the naivete so typical in Victorian books.

Carson Beck’s style went perfectly with this book. His narration had an old fashion flavor that matched the story written by Wells. His tone was clear and his interpretation expressive. I notice though some mouth noises and breath intakes, probably due to the proximity to the mic.

I would totally recommend this to everyone. ‘The Time Machine’ by H.G. Wells is a classic and this version makes it very digestible.

I received a copy of this book in audio format from the narrator in exchange for an honest review.
My name is Elena. Since I was a little child I loved science fiction and fantasy, and I can’t resist to a good novel. In 2015, while wait I started to listen to audiobooks and I discovered the pleasure in being able to read while doing my daily tasks, so there’s always an audiobook playing on my phone. If you see me with my Bluetooth headphones on, please be gentle, I get easily startled.

I live with my boyfriend, which I met during my six year stay in Belgium, two cockatiels, five lovebirds, and two Gouldian finches in Madrid, Spain; and I like to spend my free time knitting and sewing while listening to audiobooks.
