All around the world many people are suffering terrible hallucinations and are unable to sleep. Roya Stark discovers that evil Zhuang is behind this mischief, and she is suddenly dragged to the Lucidites institute, where she and other people will have to unite and fight against him. The Lucidites are a community among the Dream Travelers, people who can travel anywhere they want in their sleep.
I had previously read the Reverians series and I did not know what to expect from the Lucidites. In both books there is a villain endangering Dream Travelers and other people, and in both stories there is a main female character in her teens with the power to fight back. While the main character from the Reverians was clever, mature and kind, Roya Stark is a selfish brat, and I spent much time trying to find out why she could be the chosen one. It is revealed towards the end of the book but it seems there is still much more that we do not know yet. I really liked the story, the setting and the characters, but Roya was annoying most of the time. Her antisocial attitude made me grit my teeth more than once.
The Luicidites society was very well conceived, and I like how the institute was organized. We discover how it works at the same time as Roya does, and there she will find out much more about herself than she expected.
I missed something of her and her family introduction. It felt somehow unreal and I just could not picture their relationship in my mind. I understand this was not something crucial about the novel, but a more proper introduction would have made things more believable.
Elizabeth Klett is impressive as always, and I was able to identify the characters just by her tone.
I really liked the subject, although this book seems a bit less polished than the Reverians series, and I am looking forward to how this story will evolve.
